The first Bach at Noon concert of the 2018-19 season takes a look at the work of two foundational influences on the young Johann Sebastian Bach: Johann Adam Reincken (1643-1722) and Dieterich Buxtehude (c. 1637-1707). Like Bach in later years, both of these figures were eminent organists in their respective cities (Hamburg in Reincken's case, and Lübeck for Buxtehude), and Bach famously even undertook a 280 mile journey on foot, during the winter of 1705-6 when he was 20 years old, to observe and study the art of Buxtehude in person. This program offers the 4th suite of Reincken's Hortus Musicus collection (1687) alongside Buxtehude's powerful cantata Mein herz ist bereit BuxWV73 (c.1690).
