The Remarkable Mr. Spalding
3035 Talbot Street, San Diego, 92106
Cost: Free - $10
Please join La Playa Trail Association as Eric DuVall presents the fascinating story of early Baseball Star, Sporting Goods Entrepreneur, and one time prominent San Diegan, Albert G. Spalding, and how the Theosophical Society on Point Loma may have played a roll in the Abner Doubleday myth of Baseball's origin. Spalding played a significant part in bringing the 1915 Panama California Exposition to San Diego, he owned and named Sunset Cliffs, helped preserve Presido Park for San Diego, and put in the road out to the Old Spanish Light House on Point Loma. In spite of those and many other local accomplishments, Spalding remained much better known Nationally and Internationally than he was here in his adopted home town.
