Reinventing the Biomedical Research Institute
Presented by The Scripps Research Institute, The Front Row Lecture Series offers a front row seat to history, as some of the world's leading scientists share their unique view of science and medicine. From fascinating insights into how to brain works to dispatches from the frontiers of drug discovery and medicine, Scripps Research scientists will take you to the edge of science and keep you on the edge of your seat. Coming up: "Reinventing the Biomedical Research Institute" Speaker: Dr. Peter Schultz, President of The Scripps Research Institute Date: Thursday, May 31, 2018 4-6 p.m. Location: The Auditorium at The Scripps Research Institute Our understanding of human disease at the molecular level has grown enormously in the past 25 years, yet we still face major challenges in finding effective treatments and cures for many diseases that impact public health and the quality of life. How can biomedical research institutes bridge this gap and speed the development of innovative new medicines? In the first lecture of the new Front Row Lecture Series, Peter Schultz, PhD, a pioneering chemist and the president and CEO of The Scripps Research Institute, will address these questions and share his vision for transforming biomedical research. From his unique position, Dr. Schultz has brought together scientists from diverse backgrounds to build a new model at The Scripps Research Institute to tackle this challenge. He will share with you the impact that this eort is starting to have on degenerative diseases of aging, cancer, inflammatory diseases and childhood and neglected diseases, and how this model can change the way nonprofit research institutes work with the commercial sector to develop new medicines. This event is free and open to all. Please RSVP at https://frontrow.scripps.edu/ by May 21, 2018. Send any questions to [email protected]
