Hausmann Quartet: The Seven Last Words
Bringing their beloved annual tradition to St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, the Hausmann Quartet presents The Seven Last Words as part of their Haydn Voyages series. This concert will be open to the public with a name-your-own ticket price, and all proceeds will benefit nonprofits with a local presence, including the San Diego Rescue Mission, Border Angels, the ACLU and Planned Parenthood. A performance of Joseph Haydn’s epic masterpiece will be accompanied by spoken, chanted and sung settings of the original scripture upon which Haydn based each of the movements of this monumental work, “The Seven Last Words of Christ.” Originally commissioned for a Good Friday service in 1783, it was adapted for string quartet by the composer and has since become a treasured Easter-time tradition around the world. As the Fisch/Axelrod quartet in residence at San Diego State University the Hausmann Quartet teaches and organizes the chamber music program, engages in interdisciplinary collaborations with other departments and performs and teaches clinics at local schools on behalf of the School of Music and Dance. They have established interactive chamber music programs for young students, adults and pioneered interactive programs for seniors and homeless throughout Southern California.
