Harriet Tubman Day and Underground Railroad Experience
Harriet Tubman Village Charter School would love to invite you to an exciting annual event at our school! In honor of Harriet Tubman, our school’s namesake, we have organized an event that highlights her courageousness on the eve of her birthday. All guardians and community members are invited to join in the celebration. We start with an opening assembly at 8:30am that will include guest speakers from The Black Storytellers of San Diego who will present a special Harriet Tubman themed tale for our students and families. Afterwards our students will embark on an engaging mock, interactive Underground Railroad experience. Classrooms will be themed as various stops slaves made with Harriet Tubman during their escape to freedom, such as The Station(Safe Home), The Woods, and Sweet Freedom. Before this event our students will read aloud Moses by Carole Boston Weatherford as an introductory activity in their classrooms.
