Printmaking Camp
For Ages 9 to 12 Printmaking camp invites students to experiment with techniques and processes used in historical and contemporary printmaking while examining these processes in the light of current social issues. Students will learn about the power of graphic design, communication, and visual art. About the teaching artist: Lorain Rihan is an interdisciplinary visual artist, arts educator, and community organizer. She graduated from San Diego State University in 2012 with a BA in Applied Arts & Sciences with an emphasis in printmaking and painting, and a minor in Women's Studies. She worked as an Assistant Preparator, Gallery Educator and Teaching Artist with the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, and as a Teaching Artist with Arts for Learning San Diego. She currently serves The AjA Project as their Education Specialist. Lorain’s pedagogical approach takes on a social justice framework as she invites students to consider their surroundings and to examine the social and political realities that impact them as individuals and their communities. Her personal practice as an artist challenges dominant discourses around refugees, investigates relationships of power, and explores art as an instrument for healing. Camp is from 9:00 am -3:00 pm each day with aftercare available to 4:00 pm.
