Athenaeum Summer Festival: Gustavo Romero
The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library's 2018 Summer Festival with pianist Gustavo Romero has become a cherished tradition in San Diego. The 20th Annual Athenaeum Summer Festival, a four-part series of concerts, will feature a selection of works Gustavo has played in Summer Festival concerts over the last 19 years, including works by Bach, Brahms, Chopin, Debussy, Gershwin, Haydn, Liszt, Mozart, Rachmaninoff, Ravel, Scarlatti, Schubert, and Schumann. The festival will be set in the intimate Joan & Irwin Jacobs Music Room of the Athenaeum. Romero, a native San Diegan, first performed at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library as a young boy, and it was with him that the Athenaeum planned its first Summer Festival in 1999, the organization's 100th anniversary. Each year, Romero chooses composers to study in depth, sharing the full range of their artistry. Please visit the Athenaeum’s site to see the planned program for each concert. Also see our site for prices if you are interested in attending a dinner with Romero following the concert.
