Orchids of Tropical America
The San Diego Cymbidium Orchid Society would like to invite the public to a special one-time event. Dr. Ron Kaufmann will discuss why orchids are among the most diverse families of plants as well as amazing stories about orchid explorers and the many ways in which orchids attract animals, including humans. This presentation is based on the recently published book Orchids of Tropical America, which Dr. Kaufmann co-authored.
Orchid plants will be raffled off after the talk, and refreshments will be served. Dr. Kaufmann has a degree from the University of Minnesota in Biology (emphasis in Ecology and Behavioral Biology) and a Ph.D. from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography, UCSD, in Marine Biology. Ron joined the USD faculty in 1997 and currently serves as director of the Marine Science Graduate Program. His areas of specialization are ecology and environmental biology, and his teaching includes courses in biology, environmental studies, and marine science.
