Gelato Poetry: Michael Klam, more
For our one year anniversary at Gelato Poetry, we are bringing back Michael Klam to feature with our own Andy Palasciano and North County poet, Lisa Ratnavira. All three of these talented writers will be sharing work inspired by their experiences as teachers. Features will perform until 7:40, followed by a short break. The open mic will begin at 7:45. Share your own perspectives on teaching and learning -- or raise our consciousness on a different theme. P. S. We will be UPSTAIRS. I attended four Cal State schools. I was at San Francisco State’s Creative Writing Program for a while. I finally graduated with a B.A. in English Literature from San Diego State University. After that time I became a substitute teacher for a while, a time where I was abused, but it was a time of growth for me. It was the inspiration for my story I am currently writing, “The Warrior: the Tales Of A Substitute Teacher.” I have been published in The San Diego Poetry Annual, The Penwood Review and The Anthology Of New England Writers." Lisa Albright Ratnavira has traveled with her husband, Gamini, to Africa, Panama, Sri Lanka, Bermuda, Trinidad, Abaco, Singapore, the Maldives, Bali, Spain, and other exotic and beautiful locations, all of which have inspired Gamini's tropical wildlife artwork and Lisa's poetry. She holds a Master's degree from Concordia University and has written Grief's Labyrinth and other poems published by Garden Oak Press, Traveling with Pen and Brush and Maiden, Mother & Crone ( with Penny Perry & Rachel Harding Hebert). Her poems have appeared in San Diego poetry annual, Lucidity, Bereavement, Abbey Press, Sky Blue Waters, Limestone Circle, Poets Pen, 101 Artists Colony, Poets fantasy and various other magazines and anthologies.
