An Open Door: Holocaust Haven in the Philippines
5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego, 92182
Cost: Free
Philippine filmmaker Noel “Sonny” Izon, along with associate producer and Holocaust scholar Bonnie M. Harris have collaborated in creating a historical documentary. This previously unknown episode in Philippine history details the rescue of destitute refugees fleeing the Third Reich in the late 1930s before the outbreak of WWII. When nations of the world were closing their doors to refugee Jews fleeing the growing horrors of Nazi Germany, the Philippines chose to do what others would not — save Jewish lives. Co-sponsored by the Jewish Studies Program and Department of History at SDSU. In the Conrad Prebys Aztec Student Center.
