Creativity and Joy: Opening Reception
The Japanese Friendship Garden is excited to introduce the work of Jean Shen, a master Chinese brush painter, and her students. Ink brush painting was born during the Tang Dynasty in China and developed rapidly in the Son Dynasty. It arrived in Japan during the Kamakura period. Artists express their concepts of nature and emotion through brush painting. The artists express their joy, rhythm, and vitality on rice paper. The exhibit captures the creativity and joy of the garden through its illustration of flowers, birds, and koi. Jean's work will also be accompanied with her students' own original work that share the sense of joyfulness Jean teaches. During the reception, guests will be able to meet Jean and her students, enjoy hors d'oeuvres and beverages, and get a first hand look at JFG's latest exhibit. Jean will also be holding a Chinese brush painting demonstration at the JFG koi pond on Friday, December 8 from noon to 2 pm. RSVP: [email protected].
