Mark Goffeney, Gabriela Aparicio, Cory Wilkins
The Acoustic Evenings series at the Athenaeum showcases local San Diego acoustic musicians. Three performers are featured in each program and are available at the intermission reception and post-concert meet-and-greet. The project advances the Athenaeum’s commitment to support San Diego talent. The spring series continues with Mark Goffeney, Gabriela Aparicio, and Cory Wilkins. Mark Goffeney, a native San Diegan, was born without arms, but developed his own technique for playing the guitar. Mark’s band, Big Toe, appears nationwide, and Mark often travels solo to Europe and Asia. Gabriela Aparicio has her family roots in Uruguay. When she moved to San Diego in 2014, she began to bring her bilingual background to her writing. Gabriela likes experimenting with sound in her solo appearances, and also loves playing with her band, La Buena Onda. Cory Wilkins, with his unique “outlaw riff country” sound, is destroying barriers and shattering expectations with his energetic live shows filled to the brim with country-rock music and his trademark humor.
