To close the 2016-2017 season, Earth, Wind, and Fire! features Franz Joseph Haydn's dramatic Lord Nelson Mass (Missa in Angustiis) and J.S. Bach's exhilirating cantata Erschallet, ihr Lieder BWV 172. The span of the eighteenth-century saw a fundamental change of musical language, clearly demonstrated by two of the greatest composers of the century, J.S. Bach and Franz Joseph Haydn. Bach's Pentecost cantata, Erschallet, ihr Lieder (1714), with its allusions to the Pentecostal wind and fire serves as the book-end and back drop to Haydn's monumental Lord Nelson Mass (Missa in Angustiis, 1798). Erschallet, ihr Lieder BWV 172, J.S. Bach ; Jauchzet dem Herrn Anh. 160, attr. J.S. Bach; Lord Nelson Mass (Missa in Angustiis, 1798), F.J. Haydn.
