Abeer Hoque and Stephen Beachy Reading
3793 30th Street, San Diego, 92104
Cost: Free
Abeer will be reading from her memoir Olive Witch and Stephen from his new novel Zeke Yoder vs. the Singularity. In the 1970s, Abeer is a Bangladeshi girl growing up in a small sunlit town in Nigeria where the red clay earth, corporal punishment and running games are facts of life. At thirteen she moves with her family to suburban Pittsburgh. Finding her place as a young woman in America proves more difficult than she can imagine. In Zeke Yoder vs. the Singularity there is a newly installed anti-human government and ferocious resistance to that government. A mind-bending dystopian science fiction that merges the metaphysical speculation of Philip K Dick with the good clean fun of Amish bromance.
