SD Fringe Festival: Neighborhood Watch
San Diego Art Institute (project space) 141 Horton Plaza, downtown
Cost: $10
Lisa Pedace plays Elsa. She's in court, explaining to a judge why she's suing for $10,000, the maximum small claims amount. She has suffered industrial strength trauma and emotional stress. Why? Well. she was a charter member of the Canary Palms a housing complex. Now, 27 years later, things have changed. So has Elsa. She lost all patience and, inspired by toxic amounts of OCD and paranoia ("we never really know who's watching us"), became Commander of her Neighborhood Watch Group. Her efforts at re-establishing order (including a hilarious run-in with a hybrid dog/pony) have placed her before the judge, where she tells a tale often quite funny, at times absurdist, and always well-written. Worth Watching.
