Mangroves: The Skin of Our Coasts
Scripps Oceanography’s Octavio Aburto, in collaboration with the San Diego Diplomacy Council, presents Mangroves: the Skin of Our Coasts.
Mangroves, trees that form forests in the transition between land and sea, provide an essential habitat for a great diversity of plants and animals and are critical habitat worldwide. These coastal ecosystems are invaluable to humans, providing a number of services essential for our survival. We still do not know how much ecosystems are worth from an economic perspective, although we know that they are essential from an ecological perspective, for this reason is vital to put enormous efforts to outreach the value of mangrove ecosystems. Proceeds support exhibits and educational programming at Birch Aquarium at Scripps.
