SD Fringe Festival: The Rejected Witness
2004 Park Boulevard, San Diego, 92101
Cost: $10
Ed Eigner's one-hour adaptation of Charles Dickens' Bleak House is a literary treat. While focusing on the sad fate of a homeless orphan boy, Eigner assumes various roles and vividly paints the heartnessness and misdirected philanthropy of Dickens' Victorian England. From fragments come entirety. Employing an appropriate and comprehensible British accent, Eigner's memory is admirable, his characterizations convincing. Rejected Witness is the essence of the Fringe: one person (or a small cast) performing on a bare stage with no fancy lighting or costumes but with prodigious talent. A Must.
