SD Fringe Festival: Agila: A Duet of Filipino-American Myths
San Diego Art Institute (project space) 141 Horton Plaza, downtown
Cost: $10
Fantasy images from Filipino folklore interweave with a simple story of Chris, a young man trying to break from his family to follow his dream. The sequences are told in dance and song, with creative costuming and colorful masks. This is an impressive production done by the University of San Diego Theatre Senior Project. Solomon-Dane Hood, writer, director, and choreographer, is a true talent, and it's a pleasure to see his work. While some of the casting is off the mark, the lead, Andres Lagang, is successful as Chris. Olivia Berger and Tereso Crespo Hartendrop also show promise. Worth watching.
