Armide
6301 Birchwood Street, San Diego, 92121
Cost: $20 - $45
Gluck's rarely performed Armide features some of the most beautiful and dramatic music of the 18th century France. It is based on the same dramatic poem by Tasso (Jerusalem Delivered) as was Handel's Rinaldo in the 2015 season. This opera also looks at the magical love affair between the hero Renaud (Rinaldo) and sorceress Armide (Armida), but this time from the viewpoint of the heroine. Stephanie Havey, opera director, will stage this opera under the San Diego stars. Come early for food trucks at 6:30pm, and a pre-show talk at 7:15pm.
