Wind Garden: Reception
A new sound installation that gives voice to the trees. Created by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer John Luther Adams, the artwork translates the movements of trees and changing patterns of light into sound via software. Walking through the eucalyptus grove, visitors can hear music coming from the canopy above in sunny weather and lower tones emanated from speakers near the ground as darkness falls. The work is meant to inspire a connection to the earth and awaken ecological understanding.
The installation is the 19th addition to the Stuart Collection at the University of California San Diego. The work is located in the eucalyptus grove adjacent to the Mandel Weiss Theatre at UC San Diego. All are invited to discover the new artwork and meet the artist during the reception; the installation will also be open for future visits as a permanent installation on campus.
