Meet Ben Leconte, Modern-Day Adventurer
After swimming across the Atlantic Ocean in 1998, Benoit Lecomte will now cross the Pacific Ocean. Ben will swim 8 hours a day for 6 months, a total of 5500 miles from Tokyo to San Francisco. He will be accompanied by his support boat Discoverer and her 9 crew members. Beyond this world-record attempt, The Longest Swim will also be the first citizen science and environmental expedition of its kind, as Ben and his crew will collect valuable data on the ocean and human body for 8 research projects directed by 13 scientific institutions, including NASA and Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. From plastic pollution to space exploration, this adventure will be a unique opportunity to collect data and learn more about the oceans and human body in extreme conditions.
Alliance Française de San Diego and The Office for Science and Technology of the Consulate General of France in Los Angeles invite you to meet Ben Lecomte and his team as they will discuss how they prepare for this new challenge. Info: [email protected].
