Thoughts in Passing: What the Dying Can Teach Us
5998 Alcalà Park, San Diego, 92110
Cost: Free
Artist Claudia Biçen will discuss her collection, Thoughts in Passing, which features life-size portraits of eight Californians who know they are dying. Using portraiture as a catalyst for talking about living and dying, Biçen’s subjects reveal in their own words, through brief audio clips, what makes life meaningful. The combination of drawing and spoken word invite us to be present with the subjects as they contemplate their own living and dying, but also consider what gives our own lives meaning. One of her portraits from this collection is currently on display in the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery.
