“Technology, by itself, cannot stop the United States from falling into a new Dark Age. We live in an America where one in four adults believes that the sun revolves around the earth, and over 40 percent think humans lived with dinosaurs. Everyone who cares about science education has a role to play in stopping this slide into irrationality and political extremism.”
Physicist and MacArthur Fellow Shawn Carlson is a lifelong fighter against pseudoscience and a champion of science literacy. In this talk he will share some of his experiences in the trenches fighting astrologers, faith healers, and religious hysterics and reveal the best ways known to inspire people (especially young people) to love learning about science and technology.
