Science of Beer
Silo (an urban playground and community event space) will transform into a liquid laboratory for a one-of-a-kind festival fueled by beer "science" activities with UC San Diego Extension’s Brewing Certificate Program, beer tastings from nine of the city’s premier breweries (Stone Brewing, Lightning, Rip Current, Automatic Brewing Co), and brewery demonstrations and talks from industry professionals and featured homebrewers including Rick Blankemeier (Quality Manager at Stone Brewing), Lee Chase (Brewmaster at Automatic), Jim Crute (Founder of Lightning), Teresa Grosch (Program Director for UCSD Extension Brewing Certificate Program), and others. Food trucks will be on-site. Entertainment includes yard games such as life size beer pong and giant Jenga and live music on behalf of the event’s charity partner, the David’s Harp Foundation, a local 501(c)3 focused on empowering at-risk and homeless youth to achieve academic success through music education and multimedia production.
