Anza-Borrego Desert Paleontology: Open House
Pleistocene World: Open House at the Paleontology Laboratory. Meet at the ABDSP Visitors Center for the short guided walk over to the Stout Research Center.
Looking out over the Anza-Borrego Desert from Fonts Point, it is hard to imagine that 2.6 million years ago this was a lush land with lots of water. Rivers, streams, lakes, swamps and rainfall were abundant. This land supported a large population of animals, birds, fish and plants. What happened? Where did the flora (plants) and fauna (animals) go?
With exhibits on animals that are extinct (mammoth, giant ground sloth, saber tooth cat, teratorn) and smaller animals whose relatives are still here today (coyote, rabbit, ground squirrel, birds and fish). Volunteers available to talk to you about climate, geology, 3D imaging, photogrammetry, and other activities. Info: 760-767-4974.
