3 Plays in a Tattoo Shop
Talk about site-specific. The Trip, known for always adventurous theater, presents three one-acts at Full Circle Tattoo in South Park. Also, during the performance, someone from the audience is tattooed as part of the show. The intimate setting, and the needle sounding like an electric razor, give the 80-minute piece absolute authenticity. The three plays are about break-ups, breakdowns, and loss, and how a tattoo can commemorate or mystify an experience. Each play could use tightening, however, and the opening night was a rehearsal or two away from crispness. On the plus side, along with the atmosphere (including intrusive street noises), and the "set," the three actors -- Jared Houseman, Thomas Miller, and Matthew MacNelly -- do strong work. And Miller does an extended monologue, as smiling, suicidal David that's worth the price of admission.Worth a try.
