Harmony & Motion Music & Dance Festival
The 4th Annual Harmony and Motion International Music and Dance Festival features more than five hours of international music and dance.
Harmony and Motion 2014 will feature: The Dornob Collective (Persian Dastgah), Ballet Folklorico Aztlan, Yale Strom and Hot Pstromi (Klezmer), San Diego Civic Dance Arts Company (Bollywood & much more), Allegato World Music Ensemble (Transnational Jazz along with a special never-been-seen-before music and dance collaboration with SDCDA), Samahan (Tribal Filipino), Kembang Sunda Gamelan (Indonesian Gamelan), Sol-E-Mar (Brazilian/Afro-Cuban Percussion & Dance), Fred Benedetti and George Svoboda (International Guitar), Gloria Lanuza (Flamenco) and Naruwan Taiko. The event is topped off with a grand Bollywood finale by San Diego Civic Dance.
If you don't know much about some of these performance traditions, fear not. Ethnomusicologist Dr. David Harnish (music department chair at USD) and Claudia Russell from KSDS Jazz 88.3 will take turns clueing you in to what makes these musical and dance traditions so unique and interesting.
Made in Brazil Snacks and Yaki-tori Cathain will sell international meals during intermissions and breaks. The Festival is a co-production of The Worldview Project and San Diego's superlative San Diego Civic Dance Arts, in partnership with KSDS Jazz 88.3.
