About Death Cafés:
Death Cafés were founded by Jon Underwood based on the work of Bernard Crettaz. Lizzy Miles was the first person to host a Death Café in the United States. The first Death Café in San Diego was hosted in May, 2013 by Karen Van Dyke, who remains instrumental in the growth of Death Cafés in the area. Death Café is a global social movement whose mission is to “increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.” Death Cafés are attended by individuals who are searching to understand more about living life by understanding death. They are lively, interesting conversations in a safe environment. Plus there’s cake!
About Susanne Romo:
Susanne Romo is a freelance writer who writes for the Millionaire Girls Movement and the San Diego Front Porch journal. She understands death as she lost five people in one year. She feels that it is important for us to look at death and demystify it. By doing this, we can learn to squeeze every drop of life out of the time given to us.
About Deidra Springer:
Deidra Springer is an educator and parent who, like most of us, has experienced the death of loved ones and guided her children through loss. She believes in addressing difficult issues directly knowing that discussion can lead to insight and understanding. Death is an integral and on-going part of our existence and, therefore, something she feels deserves loving consideration.
