Summer Festival: Beethoven
The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library’s Summer Festival with pianist Gustavo Romero will be celebrating composer Ludwig van Beethoven.
Romero, a native San Diegan, first performed at the Athenaeum Music & Arts Library as a young boy, and it was with him that the Athenaeum planned its first Summer Festival in 1999, the organization’s 100th anniversary. Each year, Romero chooses composers to study in depth, sharing the full range of their artistry.
Dinners are offered after each concert in private homes or at the Athenaeum.
The program includes Sonata No. 13 in E-flat Major, Op. 27, No. 1, “Sonata quasi una fantasia,” Sonata No. 14 in C-sharp Minor, Op. 27, No. 2, “Sonata quasi una fantasia” (“Moonlight”), Sonata No. 28 in A Major, Op. 101, and Sonata No. 23 in F Minor, Op. 57 (“Appassionata”).
