Steven Schick leads chorus, orchestra, and soloists in three performances of Beethoven’s thrilling affirmation of the human spirit, “Symphony No. 9,” with guest soprano Natalie Mann, mezzo-soprano Peabody Southwell, tenor Enrique Toral, and bassist Ron Banks. The program opens with the first major symphony by an African-American composer written in 1930, William Grant Still’s jazz-infused “Afro-American Symphony.” Pre-concert lecture given by Steven Schick one hour prior to concert times.
