Agrippina by G.F. Handel
Agrippina by G.F. Handel is an Opera in 2 Acts, sung in Italian with English supertitles. Stage Director: Peter Kozma, Conductor: Nicholas Kraemer. Dr. Nicolas Reveles, San Diego Opera's Director of Education and Outreach, will present a pre-show lecture before curtain at the theater.
Presenting the "prequel" to last year's production of The Coronation of Poppea, delve into the sordid private (or not so private) lives of some of history's most notorious figures. In this historic "soap opera", Agrippina, the ambitious wife of the Roman Emperor Claudius, through deliciously evil schemes and often darkly comic intrigue, places her volatile teenage son, Nero, on the throne. Showcasing some of Handel's most brilliant melodies, Agrippina is theatrically visceral and musically stunning.
This striking new production by Opera NEO premiers a new edition by Peter Jones, conducted by the world renowned early music specialist Nicholas Kraemer (UK) and staged by the artistic director, Peter Kozma.
Approximate run time is three hours with one intermission. Suggested for audiences age fourteen years or older.
