The Authentic Amazon: Experiencing Indigenous Culture the Real Way
2002 South Coast Highway 101, Oceanside, 92054
Cost: Free
Through storytelling and yerba maté tea sharing, one group of High Tech North County students experienced an indigenous culture as first unaffiliated group to ever journey into the remote villages of the Aché people where Guayakí yerba maté is grown. With a primary mission to promote ecological awareness within the community without interfering with the culture, the students spent much of their days teaching lessons at the village elementary school and installing a solar panel in the center of the village to sustainably power the Maté roasting center.
