Smetana Trio
Founded in the 1930s, the Smetana Trio featured some of the Czech Republic’s
leading soloists of the time. The tradition of excellence has continued to this
day, as cellist Jan Páleníček continues the work of his father, Josef, an original
member of the ensemble. The three current members are all distinguished Czech soloists in their own right, but together, they create a cohesive harmony celebrated throughout Europe and around the world. Jana Nováková, violin; Jan
Páleníček, cello; Jitka Čechov, piano.
PROGRAM Vitězslav Novák: Trio in D minor, Op. 27, “Quasi una ballata;” Antonín Dvořak: Piano Trio No. 4 in E minor, “Dumky,” B. 166, (Op. 90); Johannes Brahms: Piano Trio No. 2 in C major, Op. 87.
Pre-performance conversation with the artists at 6:45pm.
