Music–making and dance are depicted in a remarkable percentage of paintings produced in the context of Mughal court culture in India, particularly in the 16th and early 17th Centuries. Bonnie Wade, Professor of Music and the Richard and Rhoda Goldman Distinguished Chair in Interdisciplinary Studies at the University of California, Berkeley, will consider why this might be, and will suggest what can be learned about the history of North Indian music and dance.
