Glow in the Park
Glow-in-the-Park will allow participants to encounter large scale art as the day transitions from hot twilight to cool evening. This free event is being produced by the Escondido History Center in association with the Escondido Arts Partnership/Municipal Gallery. This event is made possible with grants from The San Diego Foundation’s Arts and Culture working group and the Matt McLaughlin Endowment Fund, as well as the Escondido Charitable Foundation.
Set in Grape Day Park, an Escondido urban park with old growth trees and historic buildings, Glow-in-the-Park will bring the park to life at night. Visitors can interact, investigate, and be inspired by the art installations and enjoy summer in our region. A variety of art installations will feature light, sound, film, fluorescence, water, and inflatable art. “This innovative project, the first of its kind in Escondido will bring new and returning people to our community park” said Wendy Barker, Executive Director of the History Center.
“ The interaction of all of the art pieces — film, dance, light, and inflatables — during the evening will be fascinating to see. Part of the excitement is to put out an idea for an event and to see what comes about with the challenge” said Chrisanne Moats, art coordinator for the event and gallery manager at the Escondido Municipal Gallery. Wendy Barker, Executive Director History Center “The park has never seen a large scale art event. It will be a landmark event for the city and allow us to enjoy our park at night.”
