Ripples From Walden Pond: An Evening With Henry David Thoreau
4040 Twiggs Street, San Diego, 92110
Although his jumpy, episodic first act needs pruning, author Richard Platt comes close to painting a portrait of the man who rejected society and lived two years near the now famous pond. The second act's in better shape, in part because the scenes are fewer and more theatrical. Thoughtfully directed by Eric Poppick, Francis Gercke lets Thoreau's moods play over him like the seasons that organize Walden. The feelings ring true, and the performance captivates in many ways, though mannerisms of speech intrude upon Thoreau's famous, "full-stop" sentences.
Worth a try.
