"Sit in Solidarity"
1100 and 1001 Kettner Boulevard, San Diego, 92101
Museum hosts 24-hour protest calling "for the release of detained Chinese artist Ai Weiwei." Volunteers will occupy two traditionally styled Chinese chairs for one-hour periods, referencing Weiwei's sculpture series, Marble Chair, two of which are included in current "Prospect 2011" exhibit. Want to volunteer for sitting duty? RSVP: facebook.com/mcasd or [email protected]
Visitors may observe silent protest during the museum's open hours on May 19 (11am-7pm); participants will occupy the chairs through night after museum closes. Public may view the protest, visible in glass entryway, through May 20, 11am. Following initial 24-hour demonstration, chairs will remain on site for one week, available for guests to sit in.
