Running of the Saints
621 Sicard Street, San Diego, 92113
Sunday, July 24, 3:00 pm. From church on Irving Avenue to Cesar Chavez street (four blocks to the north) and back. Last year about 60 men carried two biers, one for St. Anne, one for St. Michael. The purpose of the exercise is not to race, but rather to make a public statement of devotion to the saints. The Running of the Saints is like a tradition parade-like procession, but with a greater element of public devotion and penance. Part of a two-day parish fiesta with milk bottle toss, ring toss, darts.
