Festival gets underway on June 9 with interactive presentation by jazz musician and Contra Costa College Dean of Applied Sciences Terrence Elliott, focusing on history of hip-hop, its influence on spoken word (2pm). Spoken Word Night, hosted by Joe Hernandez-Kolski, promises scheduled performances, open mike, poetry slam (7pm).
June 10 begins with "Theater Through the Prism of Social Action" panel discussion (9am), followed by panel discussion on "Theater and Community" (11am). The "24-Hour Play Festival" starts at 7pm, with eight ten-minute original scripts written by writers of color rehearsed and performed within a 24-hour period. 619-462-7729.
