"Writing Beyond Boundaries"
Consider what lies beyond the borders surrounding each of us during 14th annual Writer's Symposium by the Sea. Events get underway with "A Conversation with Dr. Pauline Chen," February 2, 7:30 p.m. ($10). Karl Giberson plans science writing workshop, February 3, 12:30 p.m., in Cunningham A, Nicholson Commons (free). Also on February 3, 7:30 p.m., "A Conversation with Luis Urrea," author of The Devil’s Highway and The Hummingbird’s Daughter ($10).
Karl Martin, professor of American literature and American pop culture expert, hosts "A Conversation and Concert with Richie Furay and Greg Laswell" on February 4 ($10). Furay was folk-rock and country rock pioneer, a founder of the bands Buffalo Springfield and Poco. PLNU alum, singer/songwriter Greg Laswell's albums include Through Toledo and Three Flights From Alto Nido.
On Thursday, February 5, David Paterson presents workshop on "Writing Screenplays," 1 p.m. ($10). Laswell returns for lyric writing workshop, 3 p.m. ($10). Enjoy "a conversation with David Paterson," 7:30 p.m. ($10).
Take-in "A Conversation with Brian McLaren" on February 6, 2 p.m. ($10). Events conclude on February 6, 7:30 p.m., with a conversation with political satirist Christopher Buckley (Thank You For Smoking) conducted by journalism professor Dean Nelson ($15). Buckley recently resigned from his column in The National Review over his endorsement of Barack Obama.
