"Research Library's Look at Pompeian Gardens"
1788 El Prado, San Diego, 92101
Cost: $15 - $20
Among artifacts recovered from Pompeii, archaeologists have uncovered carbonized remains of various species of plants, several of which are described in works by Pliny the Elder and other contemporary writers as being used medicinally by the local people. Many are still used today by the local residents and are familiar to San Diegans. Take close look at some early herbals, view works by Pliny, and see other treasures from Research Library's Rare Book room. 619-255-0203.
