Brazilian singer Tokeli Mushovic was born in San Diego and earned her bachelor of arts degree in theater from UCSD. After serving as Managing Director for the Diversionary Theater and the La Jolla Stage Company, she turned her focus to music.
Her debut album Where Do You Start? (produced by multi-award-winning guitarist and producer Peter Sprague, a fellow San Diegan) received a Jazz Album of the Year nomination by the San Diego Music Awards in 2007.
An international artist in the truest sense of the word, she sings in English, French and Portuguese and writes original material that stands up right next to the classic jazz standards we all know and love. She's been covered in such noted print and online publications as Jazziz Magazine, All About Jazz, CDreviews.com, and numerous overseas publications have also sung her praises.
Tokeli (who only uses the one name professionally) also fronts Toquali, as well as Samba de Toquali, which specializes in Brazilian jazz, samba, and bossa nova. As of 2010, she also still maintains a part-time acting career, and she was nominated for an L.A. Music Award, as Jazz Artist of the Year.
