The Bootleggers were a popular 1960s Imperial Beach act fronted by singer Cathy Carlson, a graduate of Mar Vista High School who first earned local notice with Cathy and The Casuals. The Bootleggers single "Don't Count On Tomorrow" was recorded at Nashville West Recording Studio in Hollywood with engineer Sy Mitchell and released in 1965 via Discovery Records (a label headed by June Jackson, who recorded for the Cross Tone label as H. J. Jackson, sometimes with Carlson singing background).
Cathy Carlson later recorded for Imperial, Philips, DCP, MGM, ABC, and Griffin Records, as well as becoming a performer on cruise ships and in nightclubs. She passed away in 2002.
