Formed in 2016, the Spice Pistols feature five middle-aged men in dresses mashing the music and visuals of the Spice Girls and the Sex Pistols. The band includes bassist Sppike Mike Muellenberg (Elements, League of Liars), Michael Fairchild (Pharmacy, League of Liars) along with other members from Captain Viejo, Sex Stains, Konvix, the Accessories, and True Stories.
"We don't wanna admit we actually like Spice Girls songs," says the band, "so we play 'em the way Sid Vicious, Steve Jones, Paul Cook, and Johnny Rotten would have." They auditioned for the 13th season of America's Got Talent.
In 2020, guitarist Michael Fairchild joined with hip-hop rocker Black Hesher and producer J. Andrew to form San Diablo Allstars, with their single “Hatchback.” A debut album dropped December 4 on 8-track tape, in a run of 100 copies, before becoming available digitally.
Summer 2021 found the band on tour with Agent Orange for a 16-date tour through the Pacific Northwest beginning July 31 at the Casbah, and running through August 21. Sppike Mike Muellenberg said at the time "We're currently in talks with a record label on the release of our five song EP Spice Train, and a following series of singles on vinyl. I'm also working on a solo record. The project is called The Sppike Mike Contraption. The first EP will be called Runaway Brain. We're looking at a release around November. I'm collaborating with Sky Lee Vague and Debora Venom from the L.A. area on this record."
The following summer 2022, Sppike Mike Muellenberg collaborated with local Pacific Records CEO Brian Witkin to produce a series of fundraising singles under the Music’s Future banner, to raise money for the San Diego Music Foundation's Guitars In School Program. The first single, covering Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper," includes Mike Watt (minutemen, firehose, The Stooges), Mike Reiter (27 Various, The Dig), Doug Walker (The Dwarves, The Spice Pistols), Bart Mendoza (Manual Scan, The Shambles), Anna Zinova (Pinkeye), Nick Aguilar (Slaughterhouse), and Will Lerner (Shake Before Us, Strawberry Moons), with studio production by Jeff Berkley.
