As part of the California Institute of Music, the Southern California Youth Symphony is comprised of musically talented school-age students from throughout San Diego County. Their season runs from October through June.
Conductor Michael Tseitlin was born in Moscow in 1950, studying violin with David Oistrakh and Piotr Bondarenko at Gnesin’s College and then with Felix Andrievsky. He served as executive director of the International Institute of Music, successfully directing institutes in Portugal, Italy, and Germany. Tseitlin founded the California Institute of Music in San Diego in 1990, where he has been teaching violin and viola as well as conducting and coaching.
Tseitlin also conducts the California Institute of Music Chamber Orchestra, comprised of top CIM students.
