Originally from Hawaii, Jerik Centeno, aka Small Culture, moved to San Diego in 2013 to pursue a career in audio production while studying at the Art Institute. He went on to collaborate with the Verigolds, Ed Ghost Tucker (aka the Lulls), and the Chili Banditos, as well as recording his own self-titled ambient/folk/electronica EP. Backup players in Small Culture have included Cameron Wilson (Ed Ghost Tucker, the Lulls), Jenna Cotton (Verigolds), and Max Idas (Chili Banditos).
“The name Small Culture came from the fact I’m from a small island with a lot of different cultures,” says Centeno. “It also comes from the ten-foot by ten-foot room attached to Max’s old house in Lemon Grove where we used to have shows. All you need is a small group of friends to make your day.”
