Spanish-born, Sir Angel Romero is a classical guitarist and conductor who has lived in San Diego since 1975. He has conducted and performed as a soloist with the San Diego Symphony and the San Diego Chamber Orchestra, as well as performing in the Mainly Mozart festival.
He has appeared as soloist with the New York Philharmonic, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Royal Philharmonic, the New World Symphony, the Israel Philharmonic, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. As conductor, he has led orchestras worldwide, including the Pittsburgh Symphony, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, the Royal Philharmonic, the Berlin Symphoniker, the Beijing Philharmonic, the Shanghai Symphony, the Bogotá Philharmonic, and the NDR Radiophilharmonie, among others.
He became a "Sir" in February 2000, when Spain awarded him the Grand Cross of Isabel la Catolica, and he was knighted Sir Angel Romero in reverence of his musical accomplishments. In 2007, he was honored by the Recording Academy President’s Merit Award for contributions to the music world and for his professional career achievements.
