Originally known as the Science of Sleep, the Serious Moonlight is an alternative folk band founded in 2010 by brothers A.J. Bess and Kevin Hall. Based in Ramona, they recorded their first instrumental album Until It Thunders with producer Derrick Streibig.
Drummer Jared Jones, and vocalist Megan Fisher joined the band in 2013, and they began work on their Stories EP. After finishing recording in April 2014 at After Hours Studio with producer Jon Hasz, the band began performing in the San Diego area.
A brief hiatus ensued at the beginning of 2015, until the following summer when Fisher left the band following the birth of her son. Samantha Harnish began performing with the group in October 2015, officially joining in early 2016.
