Ryan Anthony grew up in Spring Valley and attended school in Paradise Hills. As a rapper, he has collaborated with E-40 and Tech N9ne, Mitchy Slick, and others. Many of his tracks are local-centric, such as “Da[Y]Go.”
His Barely See the Beach EP was released in summer 2016, supported with a video for the track "Never Been" featuring fellow local rapper Mitchy Slick. He followed up with Barely See the Beach 2 and, in early 2021, Barely See the Beach 3.
In early 2021, he collaborated with fellow locals Mitchy Slick (who grew up in Lincoln Park) and Andra Day to release a local-centric song and video about living in San Diego called “Southeast Summers.” Neighborhoods earning a shout-out in the track include Logan Heights, Lincoln Park, Paradise Hills, Skyline, Emerald Hills, Mountain View, Lomita Village, and Shelltown.
The video features Oscar-nominated and Golden Globe-winner singer-actress Andra Day (currently starring in the Billie Holiday bio-pic The United States vs. Billie Holiday), Slick, and Anthony all together at various southeast spots such as Barrio Logan’s Chicano Park, the Willie Henderson Sports Complex, the Skyline Convenience store, and Imperial Fish Market. The trio are seen amidst footage of area murals, graffiti, low riders, motorcycles, neighborhood signs, and locals having fun in their respective southeast San Diego hangouts south of Route 94 and east of downtown.
Anthony’s third album, Barely See the Beach 3, dropped in April 2021.
