Robert Walter's 20th Congress is led by organist-pianist Robert Walter, formerly of the Greyboy Allstars, Creedle, and Daddy Longleggs. Walter has also recorded with Stanton Moore, saxophonists Red Holloway and Gary Bartz, and guitarist Phil Upchurch.
Walter moved to New Orleans in 2004. The band went on hiatus around the same time, though they reunited in late 2008 (as did the Greyboy Allstars). Sax player Cochemea Gastelum has also performed with Amy Winehouse. A new album was released in early 2013, Get Thy Bearings.
Robert Walter’s 20th Congress released its fourth record, Spacesuit, in September 2018. “My solo stuff is more acoustic piano. 20th Congress has more effects," Walter told the Reader. "It’s my rock band.”
In summer 2022, Walter was recruited by former Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters to play keys on his This Is Not A Drill tour.
